Ideal for show preparation and everyday grooming, Smart Tails provide a quick and controlled way to thin, shape and tidy thick or untidy tails. The thinning blade removes selected hairs as it is worked through the coat, allowing you to gradually reduce bulk and create a smooth, tapered finish around the dock.

The sturdy ergonomic wooden handle provides excellent grip and control, allowing the groom to work precisely through different areas of the tail. Interchangeable and replaceable blades extend the working life of the tool while allowing you to change blade grades according to the thickness of the hair and the finish required.

Choose Your Blade

Superfine – Designed for precision finishing, fine coats and ponies. An excellent choice for final detailing and creating a close, refined appearance.

Fine – Ideal for naturally finer hair or tails that have already been thinned and simply require maintaining or refining.

Medium – The versatile all-round choice for general thinning, shaping and routine maintenance. Particularly useful when starting on a moderately thick tail.

Coarse – Designed for thick, full or native-type tails where more bulk needs to be removed efficiently while retaining a natural appearance.

For particularly thick tails, starting with a Medium or Coarse blade may make initial shaping easier before progressing to a finer grade for finishing.

How to Use

For a natural result, work gradually and evenly down the sides of the tail, beginning towards the top of the dock and carefully blending downwards. Avoid removing too much hair from one area at once.

Once the desired shape has been achieved, lightly dampening the tail and applying a tail bandage for approximately an hour can help smooth the hair and create a neat, polished finish.

Smart Tails can also be useful for de-matting and thinning dense coats on dogs and other suitable small animals, making this a versatile grooming tool for professional and home use.
